DAY 1: 2/14/09
Our trip began nice and early Saturday morning. We where up a little after 2am. We had to get to the airport by 4 as our flight was leaving around 6:30am. There was no delays so we got off the ground on time. I had my happy pills (as i hate to fly) and we where on our way. We arrived in Cancun about 10:30am. Now the travel agent had told us that as soon as we get your bags, we should basically run all the way outside and look for the guys in the teal shirts. Stop for no one!!! We found out why. Lots of people in the airport wanting to sell time shares. We just looked down and ran. A few screamed at us, saying things like “we must check your passports before you can pass”. We just kept going. We got outside to mass hysteria. Had to be about 200 Mexicans outside holding signs and wanting to give us a ride. At one point Deanna took her hand off her bag and i yelled at her “KEEP YOUR HAND ON THE BAG”. Didn’t want some random person to grab it to try to help us out. We found our guys in the teal shirts and got on our bus. There is a picture of a funny sticker on the bus below. Anyways as soon as we got out of the airport the driver pulled over and got us our 1st cervezas of the trip.
We arrived at the resort shortly after. Only a 20 minute ride or so. My parents where waiting there for us. They had arrived a few hours earlier. We got checked in and of course our room was not ready. Mom and Dad’s room was not ready either. They had a little beeper to tell them when it was ready. Same as those little light up-vibrating ones at restaurants. Front desk said they would beep us when both our rooms where ready. I the mean time we grabbed a little to eat and hit the beach. Wasn’t long after that, that the beeper went off. We all went up to front desk to find out that my parents room was ready and not ours. Oh Well!! We got our own beeper and back to the beach we went. Just as Deanna got comfy on the beach, our beeper went off. Back to the front desk and off to the room. The room was very nice. there are a few pictures of it later on. Big bed, hot tub, balcony, mini bar, etc….. Got things situated in the room then went back to the beach. We had time before the 6pm cocktail hour. For those that do not know there is an unwritten rule (by my dad of course) that cocktail hour started at 6pm. We met them for cocktails and had an outside diner on the square outside the theater. after dinner it was showtime. Unfortunately it was not that great of a show. I am pretty sure that my singing voice is better than that guys, and mine is HORRIBLE!! No big deal, gave us something to laugh about. And of course the Dad had sucked down about 4 Manhattan’s and was feeling good. tried to get a shot of him passed out. almost happened. It was a fun yet tiring 1st day.
