DAY 6: 2/19/09
Today was a very eventful day. This was the day that Deanna and I would take a trip to see the Mayan ruins of Tulum. The bus was scheduled to pick us up at 6:50am. So Deanna and i had requested a wake up call and for breakfast to be delivered to the room nice and early. We got down to the front to wait for the bus on time. No bus, 7am.. no bus, 7:10…no bus. now you have all heard the expression “Mexican time” which means give or take about 15-20 minutes. By 7:30…. still no bus. By this time the travel agent from the resort was there so we talked to him. after a while we where told that the bus missed our stop. If we wanted to go we could get the 8:40 bus or they would give us our money back. We elected to get on the 8:40. We where a little upset about the whole thing. After all we lost 2 hours of sleep. This bus actually picked us up at 8:40. It was a little over an hour bus ride to Tulum. After we got off the bus it was a half mile walk or so to get into the ruins. It was hot out for sure. The ruins was packed with people. Our tour guide was very good. He spent an hour or so telling us a brief history of the ruins and what certain things meant. after that we where free to roam around. Deanna and i walked all through the ruinstaking lots of pictures. It was a very cool site to see. Unfortunately we where unable to walk on any of the pyramids because they where falling apart. Tulum was built on a cliff as you can see from some of the pictures. There was an area to walk down the cliff and go swimming. Deanna and i would have liked to have done that, but because of the later pick up time we just couldn’t squeeze it in. We only had an hour after the tour guide finished his presentation. It was probably a good thing it was a shorter trip as i have been feeling worse and worse. If anyone ever goes to Cancun i recommend seeing any of the Mayan pyramids. We got back to the resort shortly after 2.
We went strait to the heated pool, as we figured we would find my parents there eventually. I spent a few hours in the pool. got myself a floaty thing (which became my beer holder) and i was happy. Deanna was in an out of the water. Doing some more reading and stuff. Basically relaxing. My dad came by a few time to hang out as well. Being in the pool was making me feel better too, or maybe it was the beer. who knows!!We where by a group of people from Canada in the pool. They where very friendly and entertaining. There was one woman though who talked the WHOLE TIME. non-stop!! Her husband kept walking away and would disappear for long periods of time. I think we can all figure out why….
Anyways it was cocktail time. after cocktails my parents went for lobster at the lobster house. Deanna and i went to the Mexican restaurant. We both agree the Mexican was the best meal we had on the trip. We all got done with diner pretty quick so we meet back by the theater for cocktails. Dad and I played a fun game of Chess with the big Chess board. He took long time to thing about his next move. i went with my gutt. Yes he beat me. He is a much better player than me. It was while we where playing chess that the ladies boyfriend Eduardo would show up again. What a ladies man!!! We watched the show that night and then called it an evening. It was a long day, but a fun one!! there is a lot of pictures for today.
